The main enshrined deity of Matsunoo Taisha Shrine is Ooyamagui no Kami, the god of mountains and Japanese sake brewing. This god has been worshipped by the people in the region from ancient times, and the foundation of the shrine dates back to 701. The shrine is loved by many Japanese sake breweries because the sacred spring water drawn from the well in the precinct called “Kame no I (the turtle’s well)” is renowned for saving Japanese sake from going bad. Visitors are welcome to taste this sacred water.
