Shiramine Jingu Shrine

Shiramine Jingu Shrine

Shiramine Jingu Shrine has been worshipped by ball game players all over Japan, as it enshrines the guardian deity of balls, Seidaimyojin. To seek the deity’s protection and blessing on their games, Japan national teams of a variety of ball games have dedicated their balls to this shrine. Shiramine Jingu Shrine is also famous for its “Toukon (fighting spirit) charm”, which many professional ball game players wear in their games to maximize their performance and wish for their safety.

The 5 Popular Spots to Visit

Main Sanctuary: The bells placed on the left and right side of the praying place are in the shape of maris (Japanese traditional balls). Before praying, the visitors shake and ring the bell while making their wish to receive divine assistance.
Jishu Shrine: Famous players of various ball games have dedicated their balls to the shrine to pray for their victory.
Kemari Monument: It is said that if you roll the stone mari (Japanese traditional ball) engraved in the monument after praying to Jinushi Shrine, you can receive the divine assistance of Seidaimyojin in any ball game.
The Laughing Dragon: The dragon god statue placed in front of Senryu Shrine is believed to give happiness and laughter to those who touch it gently.
Tomonoo Shrine: This shrine is a good place to pray for achievements in archery, as it enshrines Minamoto-no-Tameyoshi and Tametomo, the past masters of archery in the Heian period.
