Yoshida Shrine
Yoshida Shrine sits on a special hill called Kaguraoka, which is believed to be the place where the gods used to play music in ancient times. Therefore, the shrine is counted as one of the guardian shrines of Heian-kyo imperial capital. There is a special shrine called “Saijosho Daigengu” in the precinct that enshrines all the deities in Japan. By visiting this shrine, it is said that worshippers can pay respect to all the shrines in Japan and receive all kinds of blessings. Yoshida Shrine also holds a large ceremony in February to celebrate the beginning of spring. The priests will perform rituals in the way they were done by the Heian imperial court 1000 years ago, and hundreds of thousands of people from all over Japan gather at Yoshida Shrine to participate in this special ceremony.
